Design for Manufacture

EFD.1 is an electromagnetic inductive wireless charger which supports the Qi standard. It is created from scrap mahogany, aluminium and linen, providing an elegant and classic design. At just 6.95mm thick it provides an elegant and contemporary take on a new class of electronic device.

The design for the EFD.1 was inspired by the lack of wireless charging pads made from natural materials as the market is dominated by plastic devices which are mass produced and of poor quality.

Metal and wood are traditionally used in high end, small batch electronics such as speakers by B&O, however linen is not as commonly used. Linen was used as it provides a natural soft touch yet gripy surface for a phone to rest on.
